She is a 1959 cardinal caravan camper that with the help of family and friends, has been completely remodeled into a mobile bar. She comes equipped with three serving windows, a kegerator with a dual tap system and ice wells for displaying bottles of wine and champagne. “Betsy” can be decorated to fit in perfectly with any event from tailgates to weddings!
I love using fresh herbs, spices, fruits and vegetables to create signature craft cocktails that are not only beautiful but delicious as well!
My desire to be in the culinary world started young. as a little girl, my family and I would go to our favorite Mexican restaurant and I would watch the women pressing fresh tortillas and thought it was magic! I knew I was going to be a chef.
I grew up in north Houston and have been in the restaurant industry since I was old enough to have a job. My mother was an amazing cook. She always supported my dreams to be a chef, buying me cake decorating kits and pasta makers for birthdays and Christmas. I was sent to a camp one summer for aspiring chefs and I was hooked. So, after graduating high school, she dropped me off in Hyde Park, New York where I attended the Culinary Institute of America and my culinary adventures began.
I learned so much in those two years. eating and drinking literally became my job and I loved it! A Chef of mine once told me “ You should learn everything you need to learn in a year, then you should leave and move on to learn something new”. So that’s what I did. For the next seven years I worked in hotels and restaurants for great restauranteurs like Jean-George and Mike Isabella in New York, Washington D.C, Nantucket and Austin. After gaining a wealth of knowledge and experience I was ready to come home and try something new. Returning to Houston in 2013, I started working in the “front of the house” in some of the best restaurants in town while also pursuing my passion for craft cocktails, wine and event planning. Never wanting to stay in one place for too long and seeing a need for a one-of-a-kind bar with great cocktails that can be taken anywhere… The Traveling Spirit was born. “Betsy” is lovingly named after my mother who passed away in 2013 and whose love and support always pushed me to pursue my dreams.
Our bar can be tailored to serve your favorite drinks. This includes everything from delicious signature cocktails or mocktails to local brews on tap. Having a culinary background, our cocktails focus on using fresh fruits and vegetables, spices and herbs. We thrive on creating unique events and cocktails for each occasion.
